The Dale Baum Story
In February 1998, Dale was so sick he could not take care of himself: After a quintuple bypass operation, he spent two unconscious weeks in critical care, two more weeks in intensive care and an additional two weeks just learning how to walk so he could go home. The surgery caused inadvertent lung damage which left him with difficulty breathing and using a breathing machine daily; arthritis afflicted his spine, shoulders, hips and knees so badly that he had to get shots every six months; he had degenerative disc disease in his spine that pinched the nerves to his hands so badly that he had to regularly traction himself with a device to stretch his neck out to just relieve the pain. He was so weak that he could not even walk to the mailbox and back.
He was 58 years old. He wound up losing his business, his wife, the life he had built for himself. He moved into a camper, moved to Birmingham, Alabama. During his hospital stay, his wife had become addicted to pain medicine, wound up reliving problems from the past and had eventually broken down. So when Dale started searching for something to cure his ailments, although he was estranged from her, he sought healing for his wife as well.
Through an old friend, Dale was directed to a Unity church where he found himself, during a Sunday service, listening to a man who would change his life. The man had been told about a healer, who was currently in Canada, who could take his pain away. Not only did the healer take the pain away, he also reduced a cancer so it could be healed.
The man said this healer would be coming to town to do a seminar the following weekend. The healer’s name was Dr. Eric Pearl. Dale thought that maybe this was the healing that he was looking for.
During the seminar weekend, people were paired off – one would lie on a table and the other would stand above them – attempting to heal each other. Dale noticed that when he scanned someone’s body with his hand, his hand would spasm uncontrollably while passing over a particular part of the body. He didn’t think too much of this at the time.
Following the seminar, Dale called his old friend back to thank her and explained what all had happened. She asked him if the healing he had learned worked long distance. He replied that he believed it could. She said, “Why don’t I hang up, and you send me a healing?” Dale laughed, “I guess.”
They both hung up the phone, and Dale lay down on his couch in his trailer. He called upon God, and immediately his body began to vibrate. His hands and his feet flew up and his body began to shake. As he describes it, “I was just a-jerkin’ and a-jumpin’,” and this continued for about ten minutes. Just as soon as everything calmed down, his phone rang; it was his old friend. She asked him if he remembered her telling him about her allergies and asthma. He replied that he was wasn’t aware of any problems like that. She replied that she hadn’t been able to take a deep breath in over a year. She told him that when she hung up the phone and began to meditate, she felt a warm glow in her chest and she was finally able to breathe deeply, again. Dale was astonished. His actual words were, “Wow, this is amazing stuff. It’s awesome – it went through me!”
The next night his ex-wife called him – for the first time in six months. He explained to her that he had found the healing for both of them, the one he had been looking for, and he told her a little bit about what had happened on the phone with his friend the night before. She asked what would happen if he did the same to her. He said that he had no idea, but it was not him that was doing anything, God was. He explained that energy was just energy and it would do what it was needed to do, directed by God; he would not be ‘going into her body’ as she was afraid he would, only the energy would, and so she assented.
When she hung up the phone, and Dale relaxed once again on the couch, the scene played out as before. He called on God for a healing and felt his body go rigid and vibrate. He would, in time, be able to direct his hands to move in the air across his body as if it were the body of the person he was healing, and his hands – again – would spasm violently when they passed over a part of the body that needed a specific healing (he would only discover the information about the particular areas after the healing.). He still sometimes shakes uncontrollably as the energy goes through him.
Once again, after a few minutes, he calmed down and then the phone rang; his ex-wife calling back. She told him that when she began to pray, after she hung up the phone, she felt her body begin vibrate and feel like it was lifting right off the bed. She said she was scared but remembered what Dale had said about it being God doing the healing, and that calmed her down. She had immediate results – pain free from her fibromyalgia. The mental problem turned out to be a temporary healing, one that he would heal again and again. Dale would send healings from time to time to his ex-wife, some without her knowledge. After those, for example, she would call him up and ask, “Dale, did you do a healing on me at 8:45 this morning?” And, he would reply that, yes he had, at that exact time ‘done a healing’ on her.
When Dale returned to the Unity church, he ran across the fellow he’d partnered with during the weekend seminar with Dr. Pearl. The man felt the need to tell Dale that for the last thirty five years of his life he had been traveling the world studying healers and their modalities; he’d been to Europe, the jungles of Borneo and both the Americas and in Dale he knew he’d found someone with the gift of healing but didn’t want to say anything to him yet. Dale explained that he had come to the seminar looking for a healing and was more surprised than anyone at the outcome.
Dale began to contact friends back in Pensacola, and he would tell them about this amazing new phenomenon. Of course they would have to ‘see to believe,’ so he would direct them to hang up the phone, meditate or pray – “Talk to God,” Dale would say – and then he would ‘send them a healing.’ Person after person, time after time, they would call back with remarkable results; Dale was amazed by this awesome gift he’d received through the healing. And, through healing others, he was slowly healing himself.
He started to do healings at the Unity church in Birmingham, still marveling at this new ability, when, about a month later, a friend suggested he contact a psychic that all his business friends call on a regular basis, for some insight. He mentioned, however, that she was so busy that the waiting list was usually weeks – sometimes months – to get an appointment for a phone session. Dale called, and an appointment was set up for the next afternoon! The woman did a phone reading, and explained in detail just what that was, since Dale was still new to all this metaphysical ‘stuff.’ She also told him that, with the exception of one other person, she had never felt someone with as much power to heal as him, would he do a healing on her and asked how much it would cost. Dale was at a loss to respond to the question of money since he had been healing people at no charge and never gave a thought to receiving any compensation, although one woman, apparently very happy with her healing, sent him $60 in the mail afterwards. He mentioned this to the psychic, and she replied that a fee of $60 was affordable, and really “nothing for what you can do”, she said. She suggested that they trade even: he would send her a healing and that would pay for her services. She explained that she didn’t need a healing, but she wanted to feel his power for herself. So, when Dale hung up the phone, he sent her a healing.
The next day, the Psychic called Dale back and told him what happened during the healing: “It went through my body like a freight train!” she exclaimed. She told Dale that she had a lot of clients all over the country and that they could really benefit from what he was able to do. And she also wanted to ‘gift’ him two clients – she would send him $120 and, in return, two people would call him, people she had chosen to give the gift of healing to. Needless to say, Dale was amazed. Over the next month, more than sixty people called for healings, from Hawaii to Maine. Suddenly, not only was Dale a healer, he was a working healer.
Dale then returned permanently to Pensacola where he met Sharon Renae, a local medium, publisher and author, who introduced him to more of the metaphysical world.
As an accomplished healer, Dale heals at festivals and expos through-out the South Eastern United States. These include the Unlimited Horizons Metaphysical Faire in Fort Walton Beach, FL, Spirit of Light Expo in Pensacola, Earth Day Pensacola, as well as the Mind-Body-Spirit Expo in Birmingham, Alabama.
He is also the Healing Facilitator at the Unity Church of Pensacola on the first Sunday of the month, and is a part of the Caregivers healing network at Unity Church of Gulf Breeze. Dale shares his gift at the Renaissance Fairs of Mobile and Pensacola, as well.
